The Dire Straits frontman Mark Knopfler has announced a headlining North American trek for summer 2019 in support of his forthcoming LP.

The 28-date trek is set to kick-off on August 16 in Mashantucket, Connecticut, followed by shows in cities like Philadelphia, Milwaukee, Atlanta, Austin, Vancouver, Portland, and Phoenix. Los Angeles, California will wrap-up the tour on September 22.

“My songs are made to be performed live,” Knopfler said in a statement. “I love the whole process of writing them alone and then recording them with the band, but ultimately the best part is playing them to an audience live. I enjoy the whole circus, traveling from town to town and interacting with this group of players is a total pleasure. I’m really looking forward to it.”

Knopfler, 69, will be joined by a 10-piece band throughout the run, which includes keyboardist Guy Fletcher, guitarist Richard Bennett, pianist Jim Cox, whistle and flute player Mike McGoldrick, fiddle and cittern player John McCusker, bassist Glenn Worf, percussionist Danny Cummings, drummer Ian Thomas, saxophonist Graeme Blevins and trumpeter Tom Walsh.

His ninth solo record, Down the Road Whenever, is due November 16. The LP will be his first in three years, following 2015’s Tracker. He is best-known for hits like 2000’s “What It Is,” “Sailing to Philadelphia,” and “Golden Heart.” This September, he released the track “Good On You Son.”
