Destiny’s Child member Michelle Williams will star in the Broadway musical revival of Once on This Island this fall through next year.

She is set to play Erzulie, the Goddess of Love, and one of the four gods in the musical. Once on This Island revolves around an orphan named Ti Moune who who survives a tragic flood as a child but still manages to move on in her life, finding her purpose and falling in love. The show began previews last November and opened December 3, 2017 at Circle in the Square Theatre in New York City. It won the 2018 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical.

Originally, Lea Salonga, who is the voice behind Disney princesses Mulan and Jasmine, played the role when the play first premiered on Broadway this year. Darlesia Cearcy is currently in the role, but Williams will take over from November 30, 2018 through June 2, 2019.

“I am totally overjoyed to return to Broadway and excited to join the cast of Once on This Island,” Williams said in a statement. “Taking on the role of Erzulie, the Goddess of Love, speaks to my heart. The musical is such a moving, inclusive, spiritual journey that is needed in these times. It feels just right to represent love.”

Back in 2003, Williams made her Broadway debut as the star role in Aida. Over the years, she has performed in shows like The Color Purple, Chicago, What My Husband Doesn’t Know, and a national tour of the musical Fela! in 2013.

In addition to Broadway, Williams was seen performing along Beyonce and Kelly Rowland for a Destiny’s Child reunion at Coachella earlier this year.
