Indie rocker Father John Misty and alt-country group Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit have teamed up for a co-headlining tour this June.
The month-long outing will kick-off June 6 in San Diego, California. Throughout the jaunt, they’ll make stops in cities like Detroit, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Richmond, and Houston before wrapping-up in Tulsa, Oklahoma on June 29. Jade Bird and Erin Rae will open the show, varying per date.
As pointed out by Consequence of Sound, Father John Misty mentioned Jason Isbell on his latest album, God’s Favorite Customer last year. The track, “Mr. Tillman,” includes the line “Jason Isbell’s here as well and he seemed a little worried about you.” Isbell referred to the lyric on Twitter, joking about the encounter.
I ran into Father John Misty in a hotel once and it seemed inconsequential at the time but https://t.co/kwTsokV8kB

Now, it seems like the encounter could have led to a friendship, and even, a tour.
Father John Misty will be touring in support of 2018’s God’s Favorite Customer, which includes tracks “Please Don’t Die,” “Disappointing Diamonds Are the Rarest of Them All,” and “Mr. Tillman.” The LP follows 2017’s Pure Comedy and I Love You, Honeybear from 2015. The 2016 single “Real Love Baby” has garnered over 40 million streams since its release.
Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit released The Nashville Sound in 2017, and last year, they dropped a live record. Live from the Ryman includes hits “Flagship,” “Last of My Kind,” “Cumberland Gap,” and “Cover Me Up.” In late 2018, they teamed up with David Crosby for the track “Wooden Ships.”
