Morrissey has announced a 14-date tour and is bringing along the rockers of Interpol for the ride.
The brief run will follow the former Smiths singer’s previously announced Canadian tour this month – his first tour in the country in 15 years. Additionally, he’s set to embark on the seven-date Broadway residency that’ll kick-off the In Residence On Broadway series at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre this May. Early September, the tour will begin in Columbia, Maryland, followed by gigs in cities like Austin, Salt Lake city, and Portland before wrapping-up in San Diego, California on October 6.
Ahead of the show, Interpol will be on their own trek, hitting cities across the U.S. this spring before heading overseas for a European tour. The group recently announced a return to the music scene last summer with the release of their sixth studio album, Marauder. The LP, which follows their 2014 record El Pintor, features “The Rover.” They’re best-known for hit tracks like “Obstacle One,” “Evil,” and “Rest My Chemistry.”
Morrissey is set to drop California Sun, a covers album that features contributions from Ed Droste of Grizzly Bear, Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong, and Ariel Engle of Broken Social Scene, in May. His most recent record, Low in High School, was released back in 2017 and follows his string of solo records through the years. Early ’90s albums like Kill Uncle, Your Arsenal, and Vauxhall and I put him on the map after going solo following his career with the Smiths.
As Consequence of Sound notes, Morrissey has cancelled 135 concerts since 2012 – here’s to hoping this tour won’t run into any issues.
