Dave Chappelle will make his Broadway debut this summer for a round of standup shows at New York City’s Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.
Ahead of the residency, Chappelle can be found performing in Atlanta at the Tabernacle for a four-night run. The residency will kick-off on July 9, followed by four consecutive shows through July 13. Other artists taking the stage at the Lunt-Fontanne this summer include Yanni, Morrisey, and Regina Spektor. Following the New York outing, Chappelle will perform with Jon Stewart at Colorado’s legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
Like a handful of other artists, Chappelle is taking on the no-phone policy at his shows. Attendees will have to lock their phones in a pouch, provided by the service Yondr, and will only be able to use their phone in the lobby of the venue. According to the Boston Globe, producers already warned theater-goers that “anyone smuggling one in will be ejected.”
The Emmy and Grammy Award-winning comedian is best-known for his satirical sketch series Chappelle’s Show, which aired in 2003, as well as appearances in various films like “You’ve Got Mail” and “Half Baked.” His Grammy Award-winning Netflix special, “The Age of Spin & Deep in the Heart of Texas,” is a part of his comedy special deal with Netflix, which was signed back in 2017. This October, he is set to receive the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor presented by the Kennedy Center – the award is America’s highest comedy honor.
