Mitski has been on an upward climb over the past few years, slowly becoming a star in the indie-rock community and releasing the 2018 Record of The Year, Be The Cowboy. Now, after touring for five years straight, she wants to take some time to herself.

On Twitter this week, Mitski, whose name is shortened from Mitski Miyawaki, announced that she would be playing her “last show indefinitely” on September 7 at New York City’s Central Park as a part of the SummerStage concert series. She said she is taking the time to “be human” and “have a place to live,” clarifying that all dates throughout the summer are still set to proceed as planned.

Ahead of her break, Mitski still has a handful of shows left to perform on her 2019 tour. She will perform in Morrison, Colorado next at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheater and then head to Los Angeles for a gig at the Hollywood Palladium. Throughout the rest of the summer, she’ll make an appearance at various festivals including Seattle’s Capitol Hill Block Party, Oya Festival in Norway, Flow Festival in Finland, and UK’s End of the Road Festival.

Mitski released her fourth studio album Be The Cowboy last August. The LP, which was named the top album of 2018 by music publications Consequence of Sound, Best Fit Music, Pitchfork, and Vulture, includes tracks “Why Didn’t You Stop Me,” “Nobody,” “Geyser,” and “Washing Machine Heart.” The record follows 2016’s Puberty 2 and 2014’s Bury Me At Makeout Creek. A graduate of Purchase College’s Conservatory of Music, Mitski garnered attention with “Your Best American Girl” in 2016.
