R&B/pop star Khalid has announced the details of a benefit concert next month for the victims of the El Paso mass shooting.

The concert, dubbed “A Night For Sun City,” will take place at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso on September 1 and will feature special guests that are yet to be announced. Funds raised for the concert will support the El Paso Shooting Victims’ Fund and the El Paso Community Foundation. The Great Khalid Foundation and manager Courtney Stewart’s Right Hand Foundation are presenting the show, which will be produced by Live Nation.

“Khalid’s generous offer to put on a benefit concert is a touching example of the spirit of caring and kindness that typifies El Paso,” incoming president of The University of Texas at El Paso Dr. Heather Wilson said in a press release. “We will come together to help and to heal.  I invite you to join us at the concert to honor and support the victims and their families.”

While Khalid was born in Georgia, he moved to El Paso during high school and now considers the Texas city home; he was given the keys to the city by Mayor Dee Margo last year for his connection with the city. Earlier this month, he explained that he had been thinking of a way to support the city and would headline a show where all the proceeds will go towards families who were affected by the shooting, noting that “hearing/seeing an act of terrorism happen so close to home, my family, and my friends has been unbelievable and shocking.”

“I have been rocked to the core by the horrific act of gun violence that came to El Paso, and by the continued acts of senseless violence that our country faces daily,” Khalid said in a statement. “I want to give back to my community of El Paso, the city of the 915, who has given so much to me. Please come out and let’s heal together through music while raising money to help those who need it.”

On August 3, a man with an AK-style semiautomatic rifle began to open fire inside a Walmart Supercenter in El Paso, killing 22 people and injuring 26 others. The 21-year-old shooter has been charged with capital murder and police are investigating the shooting, which may be a case of domestic terrorism and hate crime,Khalid Reveals Details Of Benefit Concert For El Paso Shooting Victims reports. The shooting is one of the three mass shootings that took place over the week in the U.S.

Khalid, who just dropped his sophomore record Free Spirit this spring, is currently on a headlining tour across North America.
