Billy Joel, the famed piano man who has set records with his consistent sold-out residency at Madison Square Garden in New York, will become the second musician to grace the stage at Notre Dame Stadium, performing at the Indiana university on June 20, 2020. The performance will be his first in South Bend, IN in 24 years, and will be only the second in the history of the venue, which is home to the storied Fighting Irish football team. Garth Brooks performed the first concert at the venue in October 2018.

“As we continue to work to bring world-class events to Notre Dame and the greater South Bend/Elkhart region, we are excited to have Billy Joel play for his first time at Notre Dame Stadium,” said Micki Kidder, vice president for University enterprises and events at Notre Dame.

Joel, who has sold over 150 million records and had 33 Top 40 hits in a career that spans back to the late 1960s, has performed twice in South Bend. He performed at the Joyce Center in 1979 and 1984, then at Stepan Center in 1996.

Since 2013, Joel has performed as the first-ever “franchise” in music at MSG, performing a show per month at the storied mid-town Manhattan venue. His January performance in 2019 was a record-setting 100th for the performer. According to a release posted to the artist’s website, he ranks as the sixth best-selling recording artist of all time and the third best-selling solo artist. He has been honored by the Library of Congress, which selected “Piano Man” for preservation in the National Recording Registry in 2016, as well as with its Gershwin Prize for Popular Song in 2014. Prior to that, Joel received the Kennedy Center Honors in December of 2013.

The 2018 Garth Brooks concert at Notre Dame Stadium was a celebrated and sold-out event, which was filmed and broadcast on CBS in December, 2018. There are no currently announced plans to similarly broadcast the Billy Joel concert next year.

Tickets for the general public go on sale on Friday, October 18 at 10 AM, but as always, there are numerous fan and credit card presales available to those seeking access to the performance before the masses.
