Olivier Award-nominated play The Shark Is Broken makes its Broadway debut this summer at the Golden Theatre. Well-reviewed at the 2019 Edinburgh Festival Fringe premiere as well as on London’s West End in 2021, the show begins its Broadway run on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, and officially opens on Thursday, August 10, 2023, for a strictly limited 16-week engagement. Tickets are now on sale.
Directed by Olivier winner Guy Masterson, and written by Ian Shaw and Joseph Nixon, The Shark Is Broken is a comedy that is inspired by the Steven Spielberg’s movie Jaws. Following the story of the ‘making’ of the iconic film, it imagines what happens on board the set’s famous boat when the cameras stop recording during the filming of the movie.
Co-writer Ian Shaw will portray Robert Shaw, his father, who played Quint in the Spielberg film and make his Broadway debut with this role. Casting for the roles of Roy Scheider and Richard Dreyfuss will be announced at a later date.
The production belongs to Sonia Friedman Productions and Scott Landis.
The creative team includes scenic and costume designer Duncan Henderson, lighting design by Tony Award winner Jon Clark, sound design and original music by Tony winner Adam Cork and video design by Nina Dunn.
