“The Sound of Music” is getting ready to launch a new musical, set to debut in 2025 across North America.
Producers Concord Theatricals and NETworks Presentations have announced the production will launch on September 9 at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. The tour is expected to span multiple seasons, with stops planned in over 55 cities.
Jack O’Brien, a five-time Tony Award winner and recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Tony Honor, is at the helm of the new production. O’Brien previously directed a touring production of “The Sound of Music” in 2015, and he’s now poised to bring his visionary approach back to the stage.

“A few years ago, I was part of a group of collaborative artists who, almost inadvertently, stumbled on original conceptions for the stage mounting of ‘The Sound of Music’ that had never found their way into production, “ O’Brien expressed.
“We felt as if we were awakening Sleeping Beauty herself, and the results exposed a version of this classic virtually unknown before, and yet more dramatic, more detailed, more rapturous and more touching than any we had experienced.”
Additionally, the creative team includes choreography by Danny Mefford, scenic design by Douglas Schmidt, costume design by Jane Greenwood and lighting design by Natasha Katz.
A list of stops and casting details is slated to be released soon. Theatergoers can visit SoundOfMusicOnTour.com to stay up-to-date on the latest announcements and information.
