The Roots are getting ready to hit the stage at the Hollywood Bowl on Sunday, June 8, with A Roots Picnic Experience: Class of ’95.
Headlined by The Roots, who will also perform as the backing band for guest artists, the lineup includes some of the most influential names in 1990s hip-hop. Artists such as Method Man & Redman, Lil’ Kim, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, DJ Quik, E-40, Raekwon, Goodie Mob, and Havoc of Mobb Deep are scheduled to take the stage.
This event marks The Roots’ return to the Hollywood Bowl following their sold-out Roots Picnic: Hip-Hop is the Love of My Life in 2024, which celebrated 50 years of hip-hop with a lineup that included Queen Latifah, Common, Digable Planets, and Arrested Development.
Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, co-founder of The Roots, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming event, reminiscing on the significance of 1995 for the group and the genre.
“1995 was the year everything came together for us,” said Questlove. “Our first major release, Do You Want More?!!!??!, marked our true arrival in the music world. Back then, hip-hop was exploding with creativity and possibility, with regional sounds and global influences converging. This event is our way of revisiting those days and sharing that energy with fans new and old.”
Additional performers are expected to be announced soon. Tickets for the event will go on sale starting Wednesday, December 11, at 10 a.m. PT through HollywoodBowl.com.
