‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ Hits $3M in Sales in London

The West End’s “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” — the magical story that takes place 19 years after “Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows” — has reached a new milestone of $3 million in sales.

According to Forbes, the production has officially brought-in more than $3 million in ticket sales since its London debut in June 2016. In 2024 alone, the play sold a record number of 544,257 tickets. The show’s official website notes that 1.7 million people have seen the London edition, while 9.3 million have watched it in other cities.

Currently, “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” also runs in New York City, Hamburg, and Tokyo. Additionally, it kicked-off a North American tour in September 2024.

Since the show first hit the stage, it’s broken records. “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” arrived on Broadway in 2018 and last year, became he fifth longest-running Broadway play in history, surpassing 1978’s “Deathtrap.” It fell just behind the fourth longest-running Broadway play in history — 1977’s “Gemini,” as well as No. 3’s “Abie’s Irish Rose” from 1922, No. 2’s “Tobacco Road” in 1933, and the longest-running production: 1939’s “Life With Father.”

“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” delves into the story of Harry’s son, Albus, who befriends Scorpius Malfoy — the son of Harry’s rival, Draco. Both boys enter a journey where they’re met with the power to change the past — and future — forever.

Following its Broadway debut, the show has received high praise; Forbes described the production as “one of the most defining pop culture events of the decade.” It also broke a Broadway record in preview sales and won nine Olivier Awards for its original West End run.
