Lil Wayne tour names Young Jeezy, Soulja Boy for ‘America’s Most Wanted’ dates
As he awaits the long-delayed release of his latest studio album, Lil Wayne is busy prepping for a 22-city summer tour with a hefty entourage of rap’s up-and-coming acts. The Young Money Presents: America’s Most Wanted Music Festival will launch July 27 at Toyota Pavilion in Scranton, PA, and end August 23 at the Superpages.com Center in Dallas, TX.
During its coast-to-coast circuit, the traveling rap extravaganza will stop for performances on July 31 at Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, NJ; August 9 at the Lakewood Amphitheatre in Atlanta, GA; and August 22 at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands, TX. A venue has not yet been confirmed for the crew’s August 13 concert in Los Angeles, CA.
Four festival stops are also planned for Canada, including an August 2 performance at the Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto, ON, and an August 17 gig at General Motors Place in Vancouver, BC.
Tickets for the four-week North American outing will go on sale beginning June 20.
Though Lil Wayne is the event’s headliner, he won’t be alone in the spotlight. Rappers Young Jeezy and Soulja Boy are the tour’s main support, along with up-and-coming artist Drake. According to published reports, an unnamed act will open each night’s performance. The three main supporting acts all have album releases coming up later this year.
Award-winning artist Lil Wayne is touring in advance of the August 18 release of “Rebirth,” his seventh studio album. The disc was originally set for an April 7 debut, but has since been pushed back multiple times without much explanation. The effort is set to be Lil Wayne’s foray into the world of rock music and reportedly features tracks with the rapper on guitar.
Lil Wayne, who has won multiple BET, MTV and Grammy awards, plans to return to his rap/hip-hop genre later this year with a second album, “Tha Wayne Carter IV.” However, an exact release date has not been confirmed.
This is the second 2009 tour for Lil Wayne, who launched his 2008-2009 I Am Music Tour in December, with support from T-Pain, Keri Hilson and Gym Class Heroes. After the original tour closed in late January, Lil Wayne picked up with a second leg of U.S. dates in March and April.
