After nearly 12 years of success off-Broadway — including five at New World Stages, the show’s current home — “Naked Boys Singing” still draws a crowd.

“Naked Boys Singing” is exactly what it sounds like: a group of men singing and dancing, usually completely or mostly nude. The show is not a typical plot-driven musical, but rather a 16-song cabaret-style musical revue, including songs like “Bliss of a Bris,” “Nothin’ But the Radio On” and several other titles that cannot be printed here. Songs range from the hilarious and absurd to the touching and deeply personal.

The eight-man cast is extraordinarily talented, and they seem very comfortable baring all in front of an audience. The music and choreography help in this regard, as the actors are often poking fun at the fact that they are naked, so there is very little awkwardness involved.

The audience, which was evenly split between men and women the night of this review performance, alternates between laughing and squealing in shock and awe at the latest suggestive dance move or clever turn of phrase. The show would make for a fun girls’ (or guys’) night out, birthday party or other celebration.

The production is not for anyone who gets squeamish about innuendo, nudity or explicit language. There is no official age requirement for the show, but producers strongly recommend that anyone under the age of 18 be accompanied by an adult, as there is some strong language, sexual themes and, of course, nudity. From the opening number, “Gratuitous Nudity,” to the final reprise of the song, all eight men prance about completely naked, though with some costuming (they have to have something they can take off, after all).

Regular ticket prices are $69.50. TicketNews readers can save up to 40 percent off ticket face values when they use “Naked Boys Singing” discount code NBTIXNEW12.

The regular production schedule includes evening performances at 10 p.m. on Fridays and at 8 p.m. on Saturdays. “Naked Boys Singing” is currently playing at New World Stages, located at 340 West 50th Street in New York, NY. The show runs about 75 minutes, with no intermission.

“Naked Boys Singing” was reviewed in participation with TicketNews’ Discount Theatre Program, which provides unique discount codes for Broadway, Off-Broadway, and other theatrical productions.
