Thrash metal’s “Big 4” have unleashed details for a second North American concert in 2011. Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax will once again share a single stage on September 14 at Yankee Stadium in Bronx, NY.
Public ticket sales for the event begin May 6, according to Metallica’s official Web site. Reserved seats will be available in the stadium’s upper deck ($90) and lower level ($119). The stadium field will be general admission, with the standing sections split into a “back floor” ($175) and “front floor” ($225).
Originally, all tickets for the concert were to be reserved seating with VIP options on the field. However, a negative fan response prompted Metallica to nix the VIP plans in favor of a general admission section, as the group stated in a May 2 update.
The special show is an East Coast follow-up to the bands’ first ever U.S. concert together, dubbed the Big 4 Festival. That initial U.S. concert went down April 23 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, CA, just one week after Coachella 2011 played the same grounds.
According to a report from MTV News, more than 55,000 people attended the Big 4 Festival in Indio, CA. Each band played its own full-length set at the seven-hour music fest.
It was the success of that first U.S. show that inspired the bands to organize a second gig this year. In their announcement of the Bronx date, the members of Metallica said that after the “enormous love and support” from fans in Indio, they “just had to find a way to make one more Big 4 show in the States happen.”
Metallica’s statement continued, “We can’t wait for a night in the Bronx as our second American show, and for those of you who love fun facts, this will also be the second live music event hosted at the new ballpark.”
The new Yankee Stadium opened in April 2009 with an advertised total seating capacity of 50,278. The ballpark’s first concert was that of Jay-Z and Eminem on September 13, 2010.
