Concert and tour promoter Live Nation has donated $50,000 to the “Vote NO on Prop 8” campaign opposing the controversial proposition on the California state ballot for tomorrow’s (November 4) election. The proposition has gained nationwide media attention for the strong support and large campaign donations drawn by both sides of the issue.

The Proposition 8 bill is a high-level state vote in the upcoming November election to make same-sex marriages constitutionally illegal in California. Gay unions were legalized in the state in May 2008, which led to a spate of celebrity weddings including TV host Ellen DeGeneres’ marriage to longtime partner Portia de Rossi in August. Hollywood heavyweights Brad Pitt and Steven Spielberg have also donated money to the fight against the bill.

“Live Nation has always offered equal rights and benefits to our employees’ same-sex partners,” said John Vlautin, senior vice president of communications for Live Nation, in a statement. “It is in this spirit that we have made the decision to donate $50,000 to the No on Prop. 8 campaign.”

“We are thrilled that Live Nation has joined companies like Apple and the founders of Google along with other businesses throughout the country who oppose Prop 8,” added Geoff Kors, a “NO on Prop 8” executive committee member.
