Adding to the glow are these members of the million dollar club: “Wicked” $1,390,500 at 100% capacity; “Jersey Boys” $1,190,277 at 100%; “The Lion King” $1,109,580 at more than 94%; “The Color Purple” $1,020,793 at close to 89%; and “Mary Poppins” $1,013,779 also at close to 89% capacity.

The New York Drama Critics’ Circle met on May 7 in their 72nd annual voting meeting. They awarded Tom Stoppard’s “The Coast of Utopia” the Best Play award of the 2006-2007 season. “Spring Awakening” was given the Best Musical award with book and lyrics by Steven Sater and music by Duncan Sheik. The Best American Play award went to “Radio Golf” by the late August Wilson. “Journey’s End,” written by R. C. Sherriff and directed by David Grindley, received a special citation. The awards were presented on May 14 at the Algonquin Hotel . . .

The Tony nominations will be announced May 15; like the NY Drama Critics’ Circle awards, the nominations may boost the flagging fortunes of a couple of productions that have earned much praise but not great box office returns.

“The Pirate Queen” continues to sail through improving weather on the seas of criticism to please the public with $648,484 in ticket sales at almost 74% capacity.

“Coram Boy” in its 2nd week grossed $277,421 at close to 49% capacity.

“Legally Blonde” continues to fare well with $840,383 and close to 93% capacity.

“Journey’s End” grossed $89,590 this past week at less than 22% capacity; perhaps its NY Critics’ Circle award will finally bring it the audience it deserves.

OPENINGS & CLOSINGS:
“The Coast of Utopia” closed on May 13 with ticket sales of $539,968 and 92% capacity. The numbers were combined: “Part 1 – Voyage,” two performances; “Part 2 – Shipwreck,” two performances; and “Part 3 – Salvage,” three performances in this last reporting week.

“Radio Golf” opened on May 8 at the Cort Theatre.

“110 in the Shade” opened on May 9 at Studio 54.
