The Pixies are an American alternative rock band formed in 1986 by Black Francis, Joey Santiago, Kim Deal and David Lovering (who still make up the group today). Although the group originated in Boston, they have achieved much greater success abroad than at home, especially in the UK. They have released four albums (in 1988, 1989, 1990 and 1991), plus several compilation and live albums. With few exceptions, all of the albums charted higher and were certified as gold or silver albums in the UK compared with the U.S. charts.
The Pixies broke up in 1993 due to conflict within the group, taking a decade-long hiatus. However, the band reunited in 2004 and has continued to perform since. Most recently, the group went on tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of the release of “Doolittle.” They performed throughout Europe in the summer of 2009 and are returning to the U.S. for a brief stint in November.
