Taylor Swift will be hitting the road across the United States and Canada early next year for a large tour supporting her fourth studio-length album, “Red” which was released on October 22. Swift made the announcement last Friday on ABC News‘ primetime television special “All Access Nashville with Katie Couric – A Special Edition of 20/20.”
The Red tour will be hitting 58 venues across North American throughout the spring and summer of 2013. Swift will kick off the tour on March 13 in Omaha, Nebraska. Along the way Swift will make stops in cities including Miami, Houston, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, and Chicago, as well as three Canadian provinces. Taylor and company will wrap up the tour with three consecutive nights of performances in Nashville, Tennessee on September 19, 20 and 21.
The tour dates also include venues at nine stadiums, allowing large crowds to get their fill of the young superstar. Stadiums include Detroit’s Ford Field, Cowboys Stadium, Toronto’s Rogers Centre, Winnipeg’s Investors’ Group Field, Vancouver’s BC Place Stadium, Pittsburgh’s Heinz Field, Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field, Foxborough’s Gillette Stadium, and Chicago’s Soldier Field.
Billboard has referred to past concerts by the artist as an, “overwhelming experience…that blended the pacing, the music and the artist’s personality in a way that transfixed.” Taylor’s last tour, supporting her third studio album “Speak now,” made a total of $97.7 million last year. She followed U2’s Global 360 Tour as the second highest grossing tour of the year.
Joining Swift on tour will be Britain’s singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran. Sheeran is featured on “Red” in a duet with Taylor titled “Everything Has Changed.” The song has already reached number 1 on iTunes. Sheeran has gained attention in the United States this past year with his popular track, “The A Team.”
“Red” debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album includes a mix of country and pop music, making her an artist loved by a large crowd of fans. The first single released, “We Are Never Getting Back Together,” quickly hit the top of both pop and country charts, carrying an upbeat dancing vibe. The album’s second single “Begin Again” is a bit slower, returning closer to Swift’s country roots but following the first single’s success on the charts.
The album includes two duets, a little bit of auto tune, and a whole lot of emotion.
“I didn’t think I could be any more excited about my RED album, but then I start thinking about how I’m going to put the new show together for The RED Tour,” said Taylor during an interview. “I have so many ideas about how to really bring this music to life, and I can’t wait to share the new show with all my fans!”
The first portion of tickets goes on sale beginning November 16 at 10 a.m. Tickets for additional venues will follow. Before Taylor hits the road for the tour, you can catch her performing at the American Music Awards on November 18, as well as many television appearances and performances promoting her album.
