As Super Bowl XLV quickly approaches, Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, TX, has again claimed the number one spot in TicketNews’ exclusive venues rankings for the week ending Sunday, January 31. Now heading up the rankings for the second straight week, the stadium dominated all rivals with a monster power score of 17.94. The Green Bay Packers meet the Pittsburgh Steelers in the February 6 match up.
In other sports, the stadium has the Monster Jam Trucks tour later in February. In concerts, Kenny Chesney and the Zac Brown Band perform in April and Taylor Swift arrives in October.
After being ousted from the leader position last week, Madison Square Garden (MSG) held steady at number two, power scoring a 4.33. MSG is home to both the New York Rangers and New York Knicks. In concerts, the venue has Prince and Lady Gaga arriving this month, Elton John in March, Rush in April and Taylor Swift in July. The fan favorite WWE tour makes a stop in March.
TD Garden (Fleet Center) in Boston, MA, made a big move this week, up four to finish in the number three position. Home to the popular Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics, the Garden also will host a number of top selling musical artists this season, including Lady Gaga and Rod Stewart and Stevie Nicks in March, and Katy Perry in June. The Garden will have Disney On Ice: Toy Story 3 for several shows later this month. The TD Garden power scored a 2.07 this week.
Up two to number four this week was the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA. With a power score of 1.87, Wells Fargo hosts both the Philadelphia Flyers and Philadelphia 76ers. The fan favorite WWE tour arrives this weekend, and in music, Elton John and Lil Wayne take the stage in March, Rod Stewart and Stevie Nicks in April and Katy Perry in June.
Next in the rankings, the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA, moved up three to take the number five spot this week. Home to the Lakers, Clippers and Kings, the venue also is scheduled to host Lady Gaga in March and Taylor Swift for four shows in August. The Staples Center power scored a 1.65 this week.
Back in the top ten for the first time in four weeks was the United Center in Chicago, IL. In at six with a power score of 1.39, the Center is home to both the Chicago Bulls and Chicago Blackhawks. The venue also has a run of “Disney on Ice: Toy Story 3” playing through mid-February. The venue’s jam-packed musical roster for the coming months includes performances by Lady Gaga in February, Lil Wayne, Rush, Rod Stewart and Stevie Nicks in April, and Taylor Swift in August.
Up two this week was Reliant Stadium in Houston, TX, finishing the week at number seven. Reliant has two big motorsports tours visiting in the coming weeks, with Monster Jam Trucks arriving later this week and the Monster Energy Supercross tour coming in mid-February. In March, the Houston Rodeo comes to town, this year featuring popular artists like Janet Jackson and Jason Aldean. “Disney On Ice: Toy Story 3” visits in April. Reliant Stadium finished the week with a power score of 1.31.
The Nassau Coliseum made an unusual appearance in the top ten this week, coming in at number eight and power scoring a 1.28. The home of the NHL’s New York Islanders will host the WWE tonight, followed by a schedule of top musical acts in the coming months. Artists appearing include Lil Wayne in March, Lady Gaga in April, and Katy Perry in June.
The Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, also made a rare appearance in the top ten, hitting at number nine this week. The home to both the Toronto Raptors and the Toronto Maple Leafs will also see performances by the likes of Lady Gaga, Rod Stewart and Stevie Nicks, and Katy Perry in the coming months. The Air Canada Centre power scored a 1.20 this week.
Rounding out this week’s top ten was the Sprint Center in Kansas City, MO. In at ten and power scoring a 1.13, the Sprint Center will host a number of kids favorites in the coming weeks, including Monster Jam Trucks this month, and the WWE and Disney On Ice: Toy Story 3 in March. In concerts, the venue will have Rod Stewart and Stevie Nicks and Jimmy Buffett in April.
With the exception of the impressive performance of Dallas Cowboys Stadium this week, strictly indoor sports and concert arenas appeared to dominate this week’s rankings. There were no theater venues to make the top ten this week.
