Starting Friday, baseball fans will be able attend their Oakland A’s games just by using their cell phone.

The A’s, along with www.Tickets.com and MLB Advanced Media, will launch Tickets@Phone, a mobile technology that sends a scannable ticket to fans’ cell phones. Admission gate readers can scan the image directly from the phone’s screen at the gate.

The A’s were the first professional sports team in the country to test the technology last October and one of three teams using the software this season, said spokeswoman Kristy Fick.

A bar-coded ticket is delivered to a mobile phone via a multimedia message service or picture message, Fick said.

More information on the new ticket technology will be available behind Section 120 during the A’s game against Cleveland this Friday, as well as the A’s Internet site. . . (Full Story)
