Björk’s sixth full-length studio album Volta, a follow-up to 2004’s Medúlla, was released on May 7, 2007. It was primarily written and produced by Björk herself and features ten new tracks. It features input from acclaimed producer Timbaland, Antony Hegarty and Sjón, among other artists.

The first single from the album, “Earth Intruders”, was released on April 9, 2007 and became her second-ever Billboard Hot 100 entry in the United States. Volta debuted at number nine on the Billboard 200 albums chart, becoming her first top ten album in the U.S., netting week-one sales of 43,000.

The album also reached number three on the French albums chart with sales of 20,600 albums sold in its first week, and number seven in the UK Albums Chart with 20,456 units sold. Her record label One Little Indian has anticipated Volta, as it features Timbaland, a producer who has worked with Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake, to be her biggest album to date, as well as to achieve huge success internationally.

The second single from the album, “Innocence)”, is to be released on July 23rd 2007.

Björk is expected to tour with the album extensively with dates confirmed for Coachella, Connect, Heineken Open’er Festival and Roskilde. This will be Björk’s first tour in four years; the majority of confirmed performances so far are at festivals. Drummer Darrin Costin has been working with Björk on her forthcoming tour.
