It’s been a quiet week on The Great White Way, to paraphrase the Garrison Keillor/Lake Woebegone opening monologue line. But the lights are just as bright even though there are still only twenty-one productions on Broadway, all musicals. Of those, the top grossing five remain:
Wicked $1,480,508 at 100% capacity
The Lion King $1,262,397 at close to 99%
Jersey Boys $1,236,877 at 100%
Mary Poppins $1,097,633 at 96.5%
The Color Purple $976,236 at 87%

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee saw an almost 15% increase in attendance and Avenue Q a 9.5% increase.

The gross for this past week is up over the same week in the previous season, a difference of $6,874. Overall, the gross for the season to date is $261,846,697 compared to $238,408,247 for the season to date a year ago, which represents an increase to date of almost 10% and $23,438,450. Attendance is up almost 9% over the previous season too. . .

The Drowsy Chaperone continues to have the lowest reported ticket sales at $523,623 and almost 63% capacity, an improvement over the previous reporting period.

SCHEDULED OPENINGS:
The Farnsworth Invention a play by Aaron Sorkin about the race for the invention of television, will open to previews Oct. 15 with the opening scheduled for Nov. 18.
