The weekend movie box office for Jan. 11-13 generated $108.8 million in total ticket sales, a number characterized as “robust” by the web source BoxOfficeMojo.com. Leading the hit parade was “The Bucket List,” (Warner Bros) which brought in an estimated $19.5 million on 3,200 screens at 2,911 theaters. The comedy-drama about two terminally ill men in their final days stars Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman. In second place was “First Sunday,” (Sony) which collected an estimated $19 million on some 2,500 screens at 2,213 theaters. The crime comedy stars and is produced by rap star Ice Cube.

“Juno” (Fox Searchlight) grossed an estimated $14 million at 2,448 venues, and has generated gross ticket sales of $71.3 million in 40 days. According to BoxOfficeMojo.com, the comedy will soon out sell “Sideways” as Fox Searchlight’s highest grossing movie. “National Treasure: Book of Secrets,” “Alvin and the Chipmunks,” “I Am Legend” and “P.S. I Love You” continued to hold top spots. “The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything,” the latest in the Christian talking-vegetables series, took in an estimated $4.4 million at 1,337 theatres. “In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale” the adaptation of a fantasy video game earned an estimated $3.3 million at 1,631 locations.

In its sixth weekend, “Atonement” grossed an estimated $4.3 million on 950 screens, for a total of $25.2 million. Spanish horror movie “The Orphanage” grossed an estimated $2 million at 707 locations, while “The Kite Runner” made an estimated $1.7 million at 715 sites.
