English progressive rock/folk band The Strawbs will be touring U.S. clubs in June with the group’s classic 1974 lineup: founder/lead singer/guitarist David Cousins, lead guitarist/vocalist Dave Lambert, keyboardist John Hawken, bassist/vocalist Chas Cronk, and drummer Rod Coombes.
Before hitting the States, the band will wrap up the extensive UK tour they are currently on by June 7.
The Strawbs started out as a bluegrass band, the Strawberry Hill Boys, before shortening their name. They were the first UK act signed to A&M Records and released their first single in 1968, after a folk-tinged few years. After keyboardist Rick Wakeman joined the group its progressive rock years began. Wakeman subsequently left to join the group Yes.
In 1974, The Strawbs’ album, “Hero and Heroine,” spent 17 weeks on the Billboard album charts. That album was followed by album “Ghosts,” with the same lineup as on the current tour. The Strawbs have toured recently with various combinations of former performers and under different monikers.
