TicketNews has released its exclusive venues rankings for the week ending Sunday, September 14, and Madison Square Garden (MSG) arrives in the number one slot this week. Boosted by sales for top performers like Tina Turner, AC/DC and Madonna, MSG is at the head of the class with a power score of 3.90. Texas Stadium drops from number one last week to number two with a power score of 2.74, as Dallas Cowboys fans keep their team atop the TicketNews’ Top Sports Events rankings for the second straight week. Giants Stadium, the second football venue in this week’s top three sites, comes in at number three this week, power scoring a 2.41. The stadium is enjoying robust ticket sales for both of its home teams, the New York Jets and New York Giants.
The Gershwin Theatre pops up two slots to number four this week, as “Wicked” holds tight to number one in Ticketnews’ Top Broadway Events and Top Theater Events rankings. This week, the Gershwin finishes with a power score of 2.26.
Another big performance venue, Las Vegas’s Caesar’s Palace Colosseum, remains in the top five this week with a power score of 1.70. The Caesar’s Palace Colosseum, still enjoying solid ticket sales for performers like Cher, Bette Midler and Elton John, drops one to the number five position this week. With its first top ten showing since May of this year, the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, PA comes in at number six on strong sales for acts such as Coldplay, AC/DC, Madonna, Metallica (who this week deposed “Wicked” from its number one slot in TicketNews’ Top Combined Events rankings) and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, a Christmas season favorite. The Wachovia Center has a power score this week of 1.57.
Back on the theater beat, the Vivian Beaumont Theatre at Lincoln Center holds steady in the number seven position. The home to “South Pacific” has a power score of 1.42 in this week’s rankings.
Another infrequent visitor to the list this summer, the TD Banknorth Garden in Boston, MA, appears this week in the number eight position, with a power score 1.42. Along with MSG and the Wachovia Center, TD Banknorth is benefiting from sales for top artists such as AC/DC, Madonna, Coldplay, Metallica and Tina Turner.
Storied Lambeau Field is the last football venue in our top ten this week, coming in at number nine with a power score of 1.35. The home of the Green Bay Packers is also home this season to a new arrangement for scalpers on game days. A rash of counterfeit ticket sales in recent years has led the Green Bay City Council to enact these new rules in the hopes that extra restrictions and permit fees for scalpers will discourage similar scams this season.
Broadway rounds out the top ten this week, as the Virginia/August Wilson Theatre drops one to the number ten slot. With a power score of 1.16, the theater is still riding high on the continued popularity of “Jersey Boys”.
TicketNews Exclusive Rankings and Power Scores are based on ticket sales for venues from the TicketNetwork Exchange™, the world’s largest secondary market exchange. A Power Score illustrates a given venue’s category-specific significance. Two factors are used to calculate a power score: total ticket sales for a venue, and total ticket sales within the category. As such, power scores should only be used to compare venues within a particular category.
