After a few late August festival performances, the Black Crowes’ Euphoria or Bust Tour is continuing its flight across North America with two special concerts recently added to the books. The next leg of the tour begins September 3 in Victoria, BC, and wraps with five shows at the Fillmore in San Francisco, CA: December 15, 16, 17, 19 and 20.
The Crowes recently added a pair of Halloween performances to the itinerary for October 30-31 at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City, with special guest Patti Smith and Her Band. The Halloween shows will end the Crowes’ four-night run at the Hammerstein, which begins with October 27-28 shows.
In recent years, it has become tradition for the rockers to perform special themed sets in celebration of the holiday. Previous Halloween concerts featured sets of Beach Boys and AC/DC cover songs performed in respective costumes of surf wear and schoolboy uniforms. Recordings and videos of the Halloween performances have been in heavy circulation online, due in part to the Crowes’ open policy regarding the use of recording devices at their shows.
The Atlanta-based blues rockers are touring in support of their March 2008 release, “Warpaint.” The album gained some unwanted press from Maxim, when the magazine preemptively reviewed the album in February without having heard it. The band and its manager criticized the magazine for this practice, which eventually elicited an apology from the publication.
The band launched their Euphoria or Bust Tour in March, completing spring and summer legs across the U.S. and Canada, as well as an international jaunt in March and April. By the time the tour closes in December, the Crowes will have performed more than one hundred shows in North America alone.
