TicketNews has released its exclusive venues rankings for the week ending Sunday, October 19, and it’s all about the World Series this week. Fans of the Series-bound Philadelphia Phillies have boosted the team’s Citizens Bank Park to the number one position this week, with a super-sized power score of 9.52. The Park will play host to games three, four and a possible fifth game of the Series. Hitting at number two this week is the home turf to the Phillies’ opponents, the Tampa Bay Rays. Tropicana Field, host to last week’s division playoffs between the Rays and the BoSox as well as games one, two and possible six and seven of the World Series, holds onto its second place post this week with a power score of 3.37.
Madison Square Garden is the first concert venue on this week’s list, dropping to number three after five weeks in the number one position. Strong ticket sales for performers such as Tina Turner and AC/DC keep this venue solidly in our top three with a power score of 2.65. The one and only Broadway venue in our top ten this week is the ever popular Gershwin Theatre, coming in at the number four position. The Broadway home to “Wicked”, which continues to top TicketNews’ Top Broadway Events and Top Theater Events rankings week after week, remains a strong top five finisher on our list, power scoring a 2.51 this week.
Up one slot from number six last week is Radio City Music Hall, home to perennial holiday favorite, the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. The venue had a solid fifth place finish this week, with a power score of 2.38.
Football takes a back seat to baseball this week as the top football venues move into the second half of our top ten list. In at number six, Texas Stadium drops two slots from number four last week. The home stadium for the Dallas Cowboys comes in with a power score of 1.98. Next on the list is football’s home to the New York Giants and New York Jets. Giants Stadium also drops two this week to arrive at number seven, with a power score of 1.95.
The next concert venue in our list this week, the Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, VA, finishes at number eight. Helping to drive the Coliseum’s rare visit to our top ten are strong ticket sales for the reunion tour of Phish, which zoomed to number four in this week’s TicketNews’ Top Concert Events rankings. The Coliseum comes in with a power score of 1.54. Falling two to the number nine position is the Toyota Center in Houston, TX. The Toyota Center is host this season to several top-selling artists, including AC/DC, the Eagles, Celine Dion, and Metallica, as well as to two popular holiday shows, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra and a traveling company of Radio City Music Hall’s Christmas Spectacular. At number ten is the final concert venue in our rankings this week, the American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX. The Center’s surge into the top ten this week is fueled by robust sales for popular artists like AC/DC, Coldplay, Tina Turner, the Eagles, Vicente Fernandez and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. The Center power scores a 1.28 in this week’s rankings.
TicketNews Exclusive Rankings and Power Scores are based on ticket sales for venues from the TicketNetwork Exchange™, the world’s largest secondary market exchange. A Power Score illustrates a given venue’s category-specific significance. Two factors are used to calculate a power score: total ticket sales for a venue, and total ticket sales within the category. As such, power scores should only be used to compare venues within a particular category.
