“FirstDIBZ Launches DIBZ Service for Hotel Rooms”
CHICAGO, IL (BUSINESS WIRE) November 3, 2008 – Online forward market pioneer FirstDIBZ today announced a new DIBZ market for hotel rooms at the 2008 BCS National Championship football game in Miami. For the first time ever, fans can secure rooms by purchasing a DIBZ on hotel rooms at Starwood’s Sheraton Yankee Clipper in Ft. Lauderdale to see their favorite team play in the BCS National Championship in January. FirstDIBZ is offering fans the opportunity to secure DIBZ on a limited number of rooms beginning today. In a first for the lodging industry, the hotel room DIBZ can then be resold and transferred in the marketplace for a profit. The final holder at the point the market matures will secure the room.
In addition to the BCS lodging initiative, FirstDIBZ recently announced the opening of DIBZ services for the BCS, including; Orange Bowl, Rose Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, and Sugar Bowl. Beyond championship sporting events, the company’s scalable consumer-direct platform, dubbed “pre-Bay” by insiders, can host a wide range of markets from live entertainment to goods and services. Lodging DIBZ is the first in a series of vertical DIBZ markets that FirstDIBZ will launch.
“As the online market place for consumer goods, services, and live events continues to evolve and grow, we are seeing a significant enthusiasm for consumers in buying before costly surcharges are added, hence rendering goods and services unaffordable to the average consumer,” said Allen Weiner, Managing Vice President, Gartner, Inc., the world’s leading information technology research and advisory company. “Vendors who have developed a technology to enable consumers to access pre-primary markets have a distinct advantage given the high demand for such a service.”
Fans holding DIBZ on rooms are guaranteed a two-night stay if their team gets to the championship. Accommodations at the Sheraton Yankee Clipper will be available from Wednesday, Jan. 7 to Friday, Jan. 9. Room rates are $249 per night for a single/double, $264 for a triple and $279 for a quad.
“Our Lodging DIBZ market is a natural extension of our brand as we build on our success in live events and sports exchanges,” said Rick Harmon, CEO, FirstDIBZ. “Once fans are able to secure tickets to premiere entertainment or high-demand sporting events in other cities, the next challenge is to find a place to stay. In many cases, by the time the teams in a championship series are identified or concert tours are announced, hotels are sold out. With Lodging DIBZ, no fan has to experience the frustration of not being able to attend a great event because they couldn’t find a hotel room.”
