Pop diva Britney Spears tops TicketNews’s Weekly Top Events rankings for the week ending December 7. Tickets for Spears’s North American tour in support of her new album “Circus” went on sale Friday, December 5, and sales were good enough to make the concert the top selling overall event with an 8.14 power score. In second place overall was Wicked, with a power score of 6.70. And, the Radio City Christmas Spectacular continues to move tickets, and it ranks number three overall, power score 4.52.
AC/DC still has a popular concert with ticket buyers; the rockers rank at number five (2.23). Perhaps thanks to the holiday season, theater shows round out the Top Combined Events ranking: Phantom of the Opera at number nine (1.32) and South Pacific at number ten (1.29).
Britney Spears, of course, dominates the Top Concert Events rankings, but coming in behind her are the Trans-Siberian Orchestra (number four, 3.52) and Elton John & Billy Joel (number five, 3.44). Rapper Lil’Wayne (number eight, 2.75) makes an appearance amongst rockers Nickelback (number six, 3.44) and Metallica (number ten, 2.33).
College teams hold the number one and two positions in the Top Sports Events rankings: the Oklahoma Sooners are number one with an 8.66 power score, followed by the Alabama Crimson Tide with a 3.41 power score. Basketball teams the Boston Celtics (2.98) and the Los Angeles Lakers (2.71) follow at numbers three and four. The most popular NFL team among ticket buyers is the New York Giants, who rank at number five (2.35), ahead of the Dallas Cowboys (number eight, 2.18). WWE tickets (1.94) and Chick-fil-A-Bowl (1.65) tickets close out the top ten at numbers nine and ten.
Wicked is still the best-selling theater and Broadway show. In the Top Theater Events rankings, Christmas-themed shows are gaining ground: The Nutcracker ranks at number seven (4.23) and How the Grinch Stole Christmas ranks at number nine (2.06). Other popular shows include The Lion King (number five, 5.26) and Billy Elliot (number eight, 3.86). In the Top Broadway Events rankings, Cirque du Soleil: Wintuk ranks at number three (10.25) behind Wicked and South Pacific. Irving Berlin’s White Christmas is in at number seven (2.98) and La Boheme is number ten, power score 1.97.
The fight may be over, but Oscar De La Hoya vs. Manny Pacquiao tickets knocked Bette Midler: The ShowGirl Must Go On from the number one spot in the Top Vegas Events rankings. But her power score of 26.40 is still better than number-two Cher’s 6.58 power score. Cirque du Soleil shows hold the numbers four through six spots: Cirque du Soleil: “O” (3.14); Cirque du Soleil: The Beatles: LOVE (2.12); and Cirque du Soleil: Mystere (1.42). Duo Donny & Marie Osmond round out the Vegas top ten with a .74 power score.
