TD Banknorth Garden in Boston MA beat out all other venues for the number one slot for the week ending Sunday December 21, according to TicketNews’ exclusive venues rankings. The Garden, home to the popular Boston Celtics basketball team and Boston Bruins hockey team, also will host top-selling artists such as Britney Spears and Fleetwood Mac over the coming months. The Garden has a power score of 3.03 this week.

Coming in at number two is Madison Square Garden (MSG), up two from last week’s number four spot. Power scoring a 2.57, MSG has hometown favorites the New York Knicks and New York Rangers to draw fans, the current Cirque Du Soleil production of Wintuk, and an upcoming date on Fleetwood Mac’s tour, its first in five years.

The Gershwin Theatre follows MSG in the rankings once again this week, moving up two to the number three slot. With its enduring hit musical Wicked generating monster receipts week after week, the Gershwin power scores a 2.55 in this week’s rankings. A new arrival this week, Los Angeles, CA’s Pantages Theatre, enters the top ten with a power score of 2.50. The historic Pantages is home to numerous Broadway-style productions over the coming months, including Mamma Mia!, “Wicked” and Phantom of the Opera. Next in the rankings at number five is the Staples Center, also in Los Angeles. The Staples Center is home court to Los Angeles Lakers basketball and in the next several weeks will host two performances by Britney Spears and an upcoming date from the WWE.

As the holiday season winds down, Radio City Music Hall finds itself slipping in the rankings. Down three slots to number six this week, the flagship venue of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular and upcoming host to Celtic Woman on their Isle of Hope tour still manages a respectable power score of 2.17 this week.

Dolphins Stadium also makes a precipitous drop in this week’s rankings. At number seven, the Stadium dropped six slots from its leader position just last week. This venue will be host to the Orange Bowl on New Year’s Day and the BCS National Championship Bowl on January 8. The Toyota Center in Houston, TX, drops two to the number eight spot this week. Power scoring a 1.94, the Toyota Center is scheduled to show a long list of popular artists in the coming weeks, including the always popular Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Canadian band Nickelback on the North American leg of their already high-grossing 2009 tour, Britney Spears and Celtic Woman.

The Orpheum Theatre in San Francisco, CA is another new arrival to the rankings this week. Debuting at number nine with a power score of 1.63, the Orpheum, like the Pantages, has in its line-up two popular Broadway-style productions of “Wicked” and “Phantom of the Opera.” Finally, at number ten this week is the Wachovia Center, making its first appearance in the top ten since mid-November. With a power score of 1.56, the Wachovia Center will play host to a variety of top-sellers in the coming months, including Metallica, Nickelback and the WWE.

TicketNews Exclusive Rankings and Power Scores are based on ticket sales for venues from the TicketNetwork Exchange™, the world’s largest secondary market exchange. A Power Score illustrates a given venue’s category-specific significance. Two factors are used to calculate a power score: total ticket sales for a venue, and total ticket sales within the category. As such, power scores should only be used to compare venues within a particular category.
