Wicked is still number one overall (power score 5.94) in TicketNews’s Weekly Top Events rankings for the week ending September 6, but U2 gains some ground, moving to number two (2.22) from their previously held number three spot. Jersey Boys make number three overall (2.15), beating out sports’ top sellers the New York Yankees (four, 2.06), the Texas Longhorns (five, 1.96), Pittsburgh Steelers (eight, 1.33), and the Dallas Cowboys (ten. 1.17). Also making a strong showing in the overall top ten: Taylor Swift & Kellie Pickler (six, 1.38), Billy Elliot (seven, 1.38), and AC/DC (nine, 1.32).
The Longhorns dominate the sports rankings with a 3.89 power score; other top ticket-selling teams include the Green Bay Packers (five, 2.05), the New York Giants (six, 1.90), and the New England Patriots (seven, 1.81). Rounding out the sports top ten are a few more of NFL’s most popular teams: the Chicago Bears (eight, 1.74), Denver Broncos (nine, 1.71), and the Minnesota Vikings (ten, 1.65).
U2 of course sits atop the concert rankings with a 7.11 power score. Miley Cyrus is still a popular ticket, as she makes number four (3.65) in these rankings. KISS is still popular too, making number five (3.55) and pulling ahead of Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band (six, 3.32). The Trans-Siberian Orchestra is back in the rankings (seven, 3.26) after announcing holiday show dates, as is Keith Urban (eight, 2.77). Britney Spears falls to number nine (2.29) from number five, and Metallica is number ten with a 2.18 power score.
Behind “Wicked” (35.80) in the theater rankings are Lion King (four, 4.26), A Steady Rain (five, 3.79) and Phantom of the Opera (six, 3.23). Billy Crystal – 700 Sundays debuts in these rankings at number eight (2.32). West Side Story (nine, 2.14) and South Pacific (ten, 1.92) close out the theater top ten.
The top Broadway events include Hamlet (six, 4.73), Andrea Bocelli (nine, 2.62), and Mamma Mia! (ten, 2.45).
Cher overthrows Bette Midler for the title of Diva with the Top Selling Vegas Show. She has a 45.56 power score, as opposed to Midler’s 30.25 power score. In the number three spot (7.50) is David Copperfield, who beats out fellow magician Criss Angel (four, 3.79). Cirque du Soleil shows dominate the rest of the Vegas top ten, beginning with Cirque du Soleil – The Beatles: Love (five, 2.48), and continuing with Cirque du Soleil – Zumanity (six, 2.05), Cirque du Soleil – O (seven, 1.97), and Cirque du Soleil – KÀ. Donny & Marie Osmond are number nine (1.15) and The Soprano’s Last Supper is number ten, power score 0.97.
