Radio City Music Hall in New York City was the top venue for the second week running, according to TicketNews’s exclusive venues rankings for the week ending Sunday, November 22.

The flagship arena for the Radio City Christmas Spectacular (taking number three in TicketNews’s Top Concert Events this week) staked its annual claim to the number one venues spot last week, and retained its title this week with an impressive power score of 4.39. In other events, Lady Gaga, at number four in this week’s Top Concerts, comes to Radio City for four performances in late January.

The Gershwin Theatre in New York City moved up one to take the number two spot this week. The Gershwin owes its good fortune week after week to continued robust ticket sales for its long running hit musical Wicked. The Gershwin Theatre finished the week with a power score of 3.29.

Madison Square Garden (MSG) dropped one to land in third place this week. MSG’s numbers benefit from two powerhouse teams who call the arena home, the New York Knicks (despite the team’s losing record comes in at number four in this week’s Top Sports Events rankings) and New York Rangers (at number nine). Last week’s visit by the WWE (at number three in Top Sports this week) likely boosted MSG’s numbers for the week as well. In other sports, this March the venue will host the popular Big East Men’s Basketball Tournament. John Mayer (at number eight in this week’s Top Concerts), who intends to use paperless ticketing on select seats for more than three dozen shows on his upcoming tour, will take the stage for two shows in February. MSG power scored a 2.85 this week.

Moving up three from last week’s number seven, Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, TX finished at number four this week with a power score of 2.39. The Stadium’s own Dallas Cowboys kept ticket sales strong enough to take them to number two in this week’s Top Sports Events rankings. But the Stadium has even more football in store for fans. On December 5, the Texas Longhorns take the field against the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the Big 12 Football Championship, a game that ranked eighth in this week’s Top Sports. The Stadium also will host the Cotton Bowl on January 2 as well as the NBA All-Star Game on February 14.

TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, MN made its debut on the list this week, seeming to rise in the rankings solely on the strength of its upcoming June date on U2’s (number two in Top Concerts this week) world tour, as the band returns to the US to play for the first time in 12 years. The TCF Bank Stadium power scored a 1.96 this week.

The Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, PA held steady at number six this week, power scoring a 1.85. Wachovia is home to hometown favorites the Philadelphia Flyers and 76ers, and it also hosts a variety of musical acts in its arena space. The traveling production of Radio City’s Christmas Spectacular plays two performances in early December, and John Mayer takes the stage in February. Jon Bon Jovi, dominating this week’s Top Concerts rankings, brings his show to the Center in March, as does Taylor Swift (at number five in this week’s Top Concerts).

The Georgia Dome fell three this week in the rankings, landing at number seven. The Dome, home to the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons, will host the number one sporting event in the Top Sports Events rankings this week, the December 5 SEC Football Championship to be played between the Florida Gators and the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Georgia Dome power scored a 1.65 this week.

This week saw the return to the top ten of the Orpheum Theatre in San Francisco, CA, coming in at number eight with a power score of 1.63. The Orpheum, bringing Broadway style shows to west coast audiences, is currently running a production of Wicked through March. The American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX made a big move this week, up to number nine from its number nineteen finish last week. The home to the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks and the NHL’s Dallas Stars also has a number of top selling musical acts appearing this season, including KISS on December 6, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra (at number six in this week’s Top Concerts) for two shows on December 30, and Jay-Z (at number nine in this week’s Top Concerts) in February. The venue also will host the WWE in early December. The American Airlines Center power scored a 1.46 this week.

Rounding out this week’s top ten was the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA, dropping down two from last week’s number eight spot. Staples is home to both the LA Lakers, who took number five this week in the Top Sports rankings, and the NHL’s LA Kings. The venue has a blockbuster line-up of musical acts coming this season as well, including KISS this week, Bon Jovi, John Mayer and Jay-Z in March, and Taylor Swift for two nights in April. The Staples Center power scored a 1.37 this week.

While Radio City assumed its seasonal rule of the rankings, the big winners this week otherwise seemed to be football venues and indoor concert arenas. The Gershwin and the Orpheum are the only two theaters in the top ten this week.

TicketNews Exclusive Rankings and Power Scores are based on ticket sales for venues from the TicketNetwork Exchange™, the world’s largest secondary market exchange. A Power Score illustrates a given venue’s category-specific significance. Two factors are used to calculate a power score: total ticket sales for a venue, and total ticket sales within the category. As such, power scores should only be used to compare venues within a particular category.
