The New Yankee Stadium once again took over the title of number one venue, according to TicketNews’ exclusive venues rankings for the week ending Sunday, July 18.

With this week’s results, New Yankee Stadium has now spent four of the past five weeks leading the rankings. Ticket sales for the New York Yankees also took the team to first place in TicketNews’ Top Sports Events rankings for the fifth straight week. The Stadium ends the week with a power score of 3.00.

The Gershwin Theatre moved up one to land in the number two position this week. Power scoring a 2.70, the Gershwin continues to benefit from strong ticket sales for its hit musical, Wicked, which this week dominated TicketNews’ Top Broadway Events, Top Theater Events and Top Combined Events rankings.

Next, the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, New York jumped three spots to take number three in the rankings. John Mayer (at number ten in this week’s Top Concert Events rankings) and Rush (at number nine) take the stage of the outdoor amphitheater in July, and KISS arrives in August with its “Hottest Show on Earth” tour. The Nikon at Jones Beach Theater power scored a 2.34 this week.

Wrigley Field, the home of the Chicago Cubs, made its seasonal debut this week, landing in the number four position with a power score of 2.34. The Cubs sold well enough this week to land the team at number four in the Top Sports rankings. In music, Dave Matthews Band and Jason Mraz appear together for two shows in September, a pairing which took them to number six in this week’s Top Concerts rankings.

Up two in the rankings this week was number five’s Fenway Park in Boston, MA. Fenway typically enjoys very strong ticket sales for its Boston Red Sox, and this week their sales took them to number two in Top Sports, totaling six straight weeks for the team in the top five. Fenway Park finished the week with a power score of 1.77.

Madison Square Garden (MSG) dropped hard from last week’s number one down to sixth place this week. Justin Bieber (who dominated the Top Concerts rankings this week) plays the venue in August, Roger Waters (at number seven) arrives for two dates in October, and Andrea Bocelli makes an appearance in December. MSG had a power score of 1.35 this week.

The Orpheum Theatre in San Francisco, CA, improved its performance this week, up one to number seven and power scoring a 1.35. Known for presenting traveling tours of Broadway musicals, the Orpheum currently is in the middle of a run of “Wicked”.

Also jumping one slot this week was number eight’s New Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. With a power score of 1.31, the Stadium is not only the new home to New York Giants and New York Jets football, but also will host the popular USA vs. Brazil soccer match on August 10. Likely bolstered by fan enthusiasm for this summer’s World Cup Finals in South Africa, this game made it to number six in this week’s Top Sports.

Up one to finish at number nine this week was Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, TX. The home to the Dallas Cowboys also hosts the August 8 NFL Hall of Fame Game between the Cowboys and the Cincinnati Bengals as well as Super Bowl XLV on February 6, 2011. Dallas Cowboys Stadium power scored a 1.20 this week.

As the US Open Tennis Championship approaches, Arthur Ashe Stadium in Corona, NY made its first appearance in the top ten since mid-June, power scoring a 1.12. The Stadium hosts the popular tennis tournament from August 30 through September 12.

Baseball venues made a good showing in this week’s rankings, along with some football venues and outdoor stadiums. The Gershwin and the Orpheum are the only two theater venues to make the top ten this week.

TicketNews Exclusive Rankings and Power Scores are based on ticket sales for venues from the TicketNetwork Exchange™, the world’s largest secondary market exchange. A Power Score illustrates a given venue’s category-specific significance. Two factors are used to calculate a power score: total ticket sales for a venue, and total ticket sales within the category. As such, power scores should only be used to compare venues within a particular category.
