Secondary ticketing giant StubHub, which boasts resale ticket marketplace deals with about 20 major college sports programs, began electronically delivering University of North Carolina (UNC) tickets this month.

In a recent email to StubHub’s large volume sellers, the company announced the change, which will virtually eliminate delivery for UNC tickets by FedEx, though some existing orders will still be fulfilled by the shipping company.

The move to electronic delivery, which is via barcodes that a reseller must enter into the StubHub system, will speed up delivery and make listing tickets easier and faster. The initiative also will potentially spur significant savings in shipping charges. StubHub has similar arrangements with Major League Baseball, for which the company is the official ticket resale marketplace, and other sports entities.

By reducing shipping charges, consumers also benefit because barcode ticket delivery costs about $5, while FedEx shipping is $15. And, when a new barcode is entered for a transferred ticket, the old barcode is invalidated, which makes such transactions more secure.

“Prices will become more competitive for UNC tickets,” Jeff Greenberg, owner of ASC Ticket and a StubHub LargeSeller, told TicketNews. “More inventory will be listed because it’ll be easier to deal with.”

A StubHub spokesperson did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment. Below is the text of the email:

Dear LargeSeller,

Please read carefully: This email contains important information for all sellers of University of North Carolina Basketball tickets at StubHub.

Now that StubHub is the Official Fan to Fan Ticket Marketplace of University of North Carolina Athletics, we’re introducing new features that make listing tickets easier and fulfilling orders automatic.

As of October 14th, your University of North Carolina Basketball ticket orders will now be delivered by electronic delivery instead of by FedEx. This means that instead of printing a FedEx shipping label, you will enter the barcodes that are printed on your tickets when you confirm your orders. Please note that any existing FedEx orders will still be fulfilled via FedEx. However, any existing listings that have not sold as well as any future orders will be set up for electronic delivery and fulfillment via barcode entry.

If you have a season ticket account with the team, you will soon be able to list your season tickets directly from your team account. If you choose to list using this method when it becomes available, it will be important to keep track of the inventory that has previously sold via FedEx or electronic delivery through your StubHub account to avoid double sales.

Please be advised that the team will have access to order information so sellers should make sure they are abiding by season ticket holder guidelines and policies when selling tickets.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your LargeSeller Account Manager.

Thanks,
The LargeSeller Team
