Broadway was the place to be this past week with ticket sales climbing nearly $5 million from the previous week. Box offices reported a total of $28,847,798, with 11 of the productions finishing the week with more than $1 million in sales.

Of the 11 shows that surpassed the $1 million dollar mark, “The Lion King” at the Minskoff had the highest total at $1,911,078. The other productions to reach seven figures include “Wicked,” “Jersey Boys,” “Mary Poppins,” “The Addams Family,” “The Phantom of the Opera,” “Billy Elliot,” “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” “The Book of Mormon,” “Mamma Mia!” and “American Idiot.”

Of the 14 plays, “War Horse” at the Beaumont led ticket sales for the second week in a row at $798,525. The play “High,” which closed on Easter Sunday after just 8 regular performances since its opening on April 17, reported the lowest box office return of any production at just $106,023.

Attendance reported for the week overall was 90.70 percent, with 21 shows reporting 95 percent or better capacity and 11 of those reporting 100 percent. The leading three were the musical “The Book of Mormon” at 102.44 percent, with “Mamma Mia!” at 101.84 percent and “Chicago” at 101.70 percent. “Arcadia” at the Barrymore reported the lowest percentage of capacity at 51.74 percent.

Looking at the Gross Gross Potential, five shows were able to achieve 95 percent or better. “The Lion King” and “Wicked” swapped places as the top achievers at 125.18 percent and 117.71 percent, respectively. Reporting the lowest figure again was “High” at the Booth, with only 19.76 percent.

Five shows posted tickets with face values at or exceeding $300, including “Jersey Boys” at $350. “The Normal Heart” offered the best bargain-priced average ticket at $23.27.

Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” continues its hiatus and will resume performances at the Foxwoods May 12 with its opening scheduled for June 14. According to an AP report, actor Christopher Tierney was able to return to work after a serious injury from a 35-foot fall from a platform above the stage on December 20. In addition to being responsible for the most of the Spider-man aerial stunts, Tierney also plays a villain in the show.
