With baseball’s top two teams finally coming into focus this weekend, World Series tickets were hot sellers last week, according to TicketNews’ exclusive events rankings for the week ending Sunday, October 17.
The Texas Rangers’ continued their American League dominance as they made it to the World Series for the second straight year and for only the second time in the team’s history. Rangers tickets for this year’s World Series shot up last week to take the No. 1 spot on both the Events rankings and TicketNews’ Top Sports rankings.
In other sports, anticipation for the upcoming bout between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Márquez made it the seventh best selling event on the secondary market and the second best in Top Sports. The bout takes place on November 12 at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena, with Mandalay Bay offering closed circuit viewing of the event. Pacquiao, an eight-division world champion, has yet to achieve a decisive win against Marquez, with their first meeting in 2004 ending in a draw and a split-decision favoring Pacquiao at their last meeting in 2008.
Holiday-themed events continued to improve their positions as the holiday season draws closer. The Trans-Siberian Orchestra (TSO) landed at No. 6 in the Events rankings after finishing last week at No. 9. The popular rock band, which has released three Christmas-themed albums, has a strong following during the holiday season which supports ticket sales for two simultaneous tours, informally known as TSO East and TSO West.
Another holiday favorite, the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, also sold well on the secondary market this week, finishing at No. 9. While Radio City Music Hall continues as the show’s flagship venue, a national touring company also brings the Spectacular to select venues throughout the holiday season. This year, the touring group will visit Boston, MA, Durham, NC, and Nashville, TN.
A couple live concert events also made the top ten this week, albeit from two very different segments of popular music. Representing old school rock, Bob Seger starts the second leg of his 2011 tour this November. The rock legend, recently nominated for induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, just added a number of west coast dates, including Oakland on December 21, Los Angeles on the 28 and Las Vegas on the 30.
Another heavy hitter on the list this week was Taylor Swift, currently performing to sell-out crowds on her Speak Now World Tour. The country crossover artist plays next in San Diego, CA, on October 20.
TicketNews Exclusive Rankings and Power Scores are based on ticket sales from the TicketNetwork Exchange™. Two factors are used to calculate a power score: total ticket sales from the given event and total ticket sales within the category. Since the sum of all events’ power scores equals 100 in any given category, an individual event’s Power Score represents its category-specific significance. Top Seller Power Scores should only be used to compare sellers within a particular category, and not across categories.
