Broadway ticket sales continued their downward trend as more productions closed their doors through the week ending January 22.

Cumulative sales for the Great White Way’s 28 productions were down a little more than $1 million — from $20.9 million through January 15 to approximately $19.3 million last week. While six made slight improvements compared to that previous frame, most shows’ individual ticket sales were down moderate amounts.

The week brought good news for “War Horse,” which saw the biggest week-over-week gains (56 percent) for receipts totaling $960,191. Recently opened opera-turned-musical “Porgy and Bess” also improved its standings by a lesser 3 percent to $878,884.

Two closing productions also generated some sales momentum from their predicaments.

“The Mountaintop” ended its limited engagement January 22 with sales up 9 percent and a weekly total of $693,128. Meanwhile, the impending January 29 shuttering of “Chinglish” boosted audience interest faintly. The long-struggling laugher pulled $250,298 for its penultimate week — a gain of nearly 13 percent over the previous frame.

But from there, it was mostly downhill for the Main Stem.

Some regular fan-favorites continued their descent from holiday highs: “Wicked” was down 14 percent ($1.53 million), and “The Lion King” fell 9 percent ($1.44 million). “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” slipped by with only a $4,000 dip to $1.43 million.

Several other tuners also struggled through the week. “Mary Poppins” plummeted 27 percent to $621,391, while sales for “Sister Act” were down by 24 percent to $462,966.
