NBA arenas are making the most of their abbreviated season on the court, with seven of the top 10 entrants in TicketNews’ exclusive venues rankings for the week being home to NBA teams.
The highest ranking of the group was Madison Square Garden (MSG), now topping the venues list for four consecutive weeks. MSG is home to the New York Knicks, whose secondary market ticket sales again took them to No. 1 in the week’s Top Sports Events rankings.
The Knicks have had a faltering start this season, in part due to injuries to rookie guard Iman Shumpert during the team’s opening day win against the Boston Celtics and subsequent loss of forward Amar’e Stoudemire to a sprained left ankle.
Other NBA venues that made it into the rankings this week included the Staples Center in Los Angeles, American Airlines Arena in Miami, TD Garden in Boston and United Center in Chicago, among others.
Though edged out by the NBA blitz this week, theater kept some representation in the Top 10, with the Eugene O’Neill Theatre, in at No. 2. The theater enjoys robust sales each week from blockbuster hit “The Book of Mormon”, which consistently leads TicketNews’ Top Broadway rankings.
Los Angeles’ Pantages Theatre came in at No. 7 behind strong sales for its west coast production of the long-running hit, “Wicked”.
