Internationally acclaimed electronic dance and music event “ Sensation” will make its U.S. debut in a two-night run at the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn this October, just one month after the opening of the venue.
Netherlands-based Sensation will perform their “innerspace” show Friday, October 26 and Saturday, October 27. According to the show’s page on the Barclays Center website, the show will mark the first time Sensation will program an entire weekend event outside of Holland.
“innerspace” premiered in Amsterdam last year and “transports the audience on a spiritual journey through seven intense experiences and an interactive happening full of dazzling show elements,” says the website for the show’s October performance. The international tour is known for requiring its attendees to dress in all white attire.
“Barclays Center is thrilled to introduce Sensation to Brooklyn and to the nation,” said Barclays Center CEO Brett Yormark in a statement on the arena’s website. “Sensation will bring a dynamic cultural experience with cutting-edge music to the heart of Brooklyn. We’re excited to offer the borough a unique interactive global event as we continue to attract the most diverse programming of any venue in the country.”
While the entire lineup for the show has not been announced, several sources including Last.fm have confirmed that house DJ and producer Fedde Le Grand will perform. A Netherlands DJ since 2001, Le Grand has worked with artists like Black Eyed Peas frontman Will.i.am and Madonna and had a No. 1 album in the UK, Spain, Russia, Finland, and Bulgaria.
Organized by Dutch entertainment company ID&T, Sensation has performed for millions in over 20 countries since 2000 and is comprised of world-renowned DJs whose music is synchronized with acrobatics, lightshows, and lasers.
Aside from featuring world class DJs and performers, Sensation is known for “The Mix,” which is said to be the climax of the show, according to the Barclays Center website. “The Mix” is a “musical trip through history” with old and new hits set to a synchronized show and fireworks display.
The October show will not only be a milestone for Sensation, but the event will also be one of the first shows at the brand new Barclays Center Arena in Brooklyn, which is set to open September 28. Opening night will feature a concert by hip-hop artist Jay-Z, part owner of the Brooklyn Nets, formerly the New Jersey Nets, who will call the Barclays Center home at the start of the NBA season.
The state-of-the-art sports and entertainment complex is located in the heart of Brooklyn and can accommodate up to 19,000 concertgoers. The scheduled lineup for the arena includes an already sold-out Barbara Streisand concert in October. The arena will also host a New York Islanders game on opening night, a Rush performance in October, Justin Bieber concert in November and host of other events.
Tickets for the October Sensation event will be on sale Friday, June 8 through Ticketmaster. According to Barclays Center’s website for the show, ticket buyers must be at least 21 years old to attend. Live Nation has partnered with Sensation for the event, which is aimed at attracting a more mature audience, according to Billboard.biz — ticket prices start at $150 with a special package available for $250.
Sensation founder and CEO Duncan Stutterheim told Billboard.biz that there is already quite a buzz surrounding the U.S. show. “We put a 30-second teaser video up on Facebook, and from that alone the U.S. page is already the biggest Sensation page in the world,” says Stutterheim. “There is something happening here: Electronic music is really taking over. For us, it’s really the right moment to be here.”
