Indie-rock’s Brandi Carlile, who garnered attention at this year’s Grammy’s for her award-winning album By The Way, I Forgive You, is set to perform Joni Mitchell’s 1979 smash record Blue in full for a special concert in California.

The show will take place on October 14 at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. This is Carlile’s first time performing at the 2,265-capacity venue and claims that Blue “might very well be the best album ever made.”

“I feel the need to play this masterpiece in its entirety so that I can honor Joni Mitchell and the way this album brought me into myself, but also so that I can hear it live too!” she said in a press release, noting that her soul will be listening alongside Joni’s.

“If Joni is right and ‘songs are like tattoos,’ then these songs are an indelible part of our collective story and coming of age. ‘Part of you pours out of me in these lines from time to time.’ Let’s do Blue. Hearts on sleeves and voices raised. Let’s do this one for Joni.”

Blue was Mitchell’s fourth studio album and has been considered by music critics as one of the greatest albums of all time, scoring the No. 30 spot on Rolling Stones’ “500 Greatest Albums of All Time” list. The folk record includes tracks “A Case of You” and “This Flight Tonight,” as well as singles “California” and “Carey.” It went Platinum in both the UK and U.S., peaking at No. 15 on the Billboard 200.

In addition to this special gig, Carlile is booked throughout the year, performing in support of her 2018 LP. She is currently headlining a solo tour through September, and along the way, she will offer support on select dates for Heart’s Love Alive tour.
