The Rock ‘N Roll Marathon Series has announced the Grammy-Nominated popstar Kesha as the headlining artist for this year’s Humana Rock ‘N Roll Las Vegas Marathon and 1/2 Marathon.
The marathon, which is dubbed the “biggest and best night race in the world,” is set to take place on Sunday, November 16 at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds. Race organizers made the decision to hold the concert on Saturday, November 15, ahead of the main event, in order to allow runners participating in any distance the ability to catch the show. There are an estimated 40,000 registered athletes slated to participate in the marathon – either the marathon, half marathon, or 10K. Additionally, participants can attend the Run the Strip at Night event, which includes music and entertainment during the run.
Stacey Campbell, the Executive Director for Rock ‘N Roll Las Vegas Marathon and 1/2 Marathon, noted in a statement that when the Las Vegas Strip is closed down for runners, it’s a “big deal,” and organizers wanted to find a performer that would be equally exciting for participants looking to have a “great shake out” the night before the official event.
“Kesha’s music embodies the inclusive and energetic nature of the running community, and the new Saturday night concert will set the tone for an unforgettable experience for participants and the local community,” Campbell said. “We’re thrilled that she will be the first female headliner to grace the Humana Rock ‘N Roll Las Vegas stage.”
The “Praying” singer explained that the race will be a “unique experience.”
“Runners have an inherent energy and strength that reveals amazing self-empowerment, focus and determination to get through the toughest moments, which is something I can relate to,” she said. “It’s an honor to join the acclaimed performers that have headlined this event in previous years, and I can’t wait to bring my own wild, fun, and hopefully encouraging running-conducive energy for everyone to enjoy for the big race!”
After a lengthy legal battle, Kesha returned to the music scene after five years in 2017 with an intimate and powerful record dubbed Rainbow. The LP includes tracks “Praying,” “Let ‘Em Talk,” and “Woman,” and in support of the record, she toured alongside Macklemore throughout 2018. Now, Kesha is gearing up for the release of another album, High Road, due in January.
Those participating in one of the marathons will be able to witness iconic Las Vegas landmarks during the event, including the “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign, the Fountains of Bellagio, and the Volcano at The Mirage Hotel & Casino. Aside from Kesha’s performance, a handful of live bands and DJs of varying genres will take the stage throughout the race day to encourage runners to make it to the finish line.
