The Newport Beach-headquartered insuretech company, Protecht, revealed a new CTO position and hire.

Patrick Zhang of Irvine, California will take over the newly-created position of Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and will report to CEO Bryan Derbyshire. In the role, Zhang will help Protecht become a “developer-friendly environment” and ensure “its future in the industry.” Derbyshire calls Zhang a “pivotal” person in their company, as he previously worked as the Senior Vice President of Engineering for the company over three years. Prior to his time with Protecht, Zhang worked as a consultant and received a Bachelor’s degree from University of California, Irvine.

Protecht, which is privately held, aims to protect consumer’s ticket purchases with real-time data and inventory through its FanShield Insurance.

“I’ve had the pleasure of building Protecht’s platform block-by-block from the beginning,” Zhang said. “As I assume the CTO role, I’m thrilled to be supporting the next phase of innovation and rapid growth for Protecht.”

Zhang is the latest Protecht hire; late last year, the company announced Beau Jeppesen as the new chief product officer. Protecht also made headlines earlier this month following its partnership with EventSprout. Through the newly-announced partnership, EventSprout users can feel protected insuring their tickets through Protecht, reaching more live event goers across the country.
