Jason Robert Brown’s “The Last Five Years” is gearing up to meet Broadway audiences in 2025, though it comes to an end to decide on its creative team. As previously announced, the Tony-nominated production will debut on the Great White Way on March 18, 2025, with an official opening night slated for April 6, 2025.
Directed by Whitney White, “The Last Five Years” will run for a 14-week limited engagement at the Hudson Theatre. It features choreography by Tony Award-nominees Jeff Kuperman and Rick Kuperman who are widely known for their choreography of “The Outsiders.”
Three-time Tony Award winner David Zinn, who previously designed sets for “Stereophonic,” “The Notebook,” “Kimberly Akimbo,” and many more, owns the scenic design. Costume design belongs to Dede Ayite; she won a Tony Award for her work on “Jaja’s African Hair Braiding.”
Sound design will be by Cody Spencer. who received the Tony for “The Outsiders”, whereas lighting design is provided by Stacey Derosier – it will be a work marking her debut on the Main Stem. Wig and hair design will be helmed by Academy Award, Emmy, and Bafta recipient Mia Neal.
“The Last Five Years” tells the stories of two New Yorkers: Jamie, an up-and-coming author, and Cathy, an aspiring actress, delving into the complex relationship between them, with the highs and lows of love, success, and inspirations in New York City.
After premiering at Northlight Theatre in Skokie, Illinois, the musical transferred to Off-Broadway back in 2002. Following its original run, “The Last Five Years” experienced a revival Off-Broadway in 2013 and was adapted into a film in 2014 starring Jeremy Jordan and Anna Kendrick.
The Broadway debut of the show will see singer Nick Jonas and Tony Award winner Adrienne Warren in the roles of Jamie and Cathy.
