New ‘Kinky Boots’ Musical to Kick-Off This Fall

Broadway’s celebrated musical “Kinky Boots” will embark on a new tour this fall. While the global theater producer Crossroads Live will present the tour, a touring schedule, casting, and creative team have not been revealed at this time.

Based on the 2005 film by Geoff Deane and Tim Firth, “Kinky Boots” made its Broadway debut at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre back in April 2013. Featuring a Tony-winning score by Cyndi Lauper and a book by Tony winner Harvey Fierstein, it was both directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell, starring Stark Sands and Billy Porter in the roles of Charlie and Lola, respectively.

“Kinky Boots” was in the limelight over those six years from 2013 through 2019, after earning itself six Tony Awards including Best Musical in 2013 and grossing $297 million just on Broadway. The production played 34 previews and 2,507 regular performances from 2013 until its final performance in April 2019.

Aside from the performances on the Main Stem, the musical toured the U.S. starting from 2014, then also headed to Britain, Korea, Canada, Australia, and Japan.

The international hit follows the story of a young man named Charlie Price who has reluctantly inherited his father’s shoe factory, which is on the verge of bankruptcy. While trying to live up to his father’s legacy and save his family business, Charlie meets a drag queen Lola, who inspires him to start making erotic footwear.

“As they work to turn the factory around, this unlikely pair find that they have more in common than they realized… and discover that when you change your mind, you can change your whole world,” the synopsis reads.
