Just two years after ending her first residency in Las Vegas, NV, acclaimed vocalist Céline Dion has announced that she will return to the Colosseum at Caesars Palace for another run. The new three-year residency and show will premiere on March 15, 2011.
The first 54 concert dates for Dion’s new residency have been announced and will stretch through August 14, 2011. Public ticket sales for that five-month performance window will begin this Friday, February 12, on Ticketmaster.
Face value for tickets will range from $55 to $250, not including any applicable fees. Front orchestra seats will have the highest price tag of $250, with rear orchestra seats marked at $175. Seats in the Colosseum’s first mezzanine will run $140, and second mezzanine seating will cost $95. Based on a seating chart on the “Celine in Las Vegas” residency Web site, it is unclear which seats or how many will be sold for $55.
The show concept is based on “the romance of classic Hollywood movies,” according to a description on the residency Web site. The nightly setlist will cover “Hollywood classics” as well as favorites from Dion’s own repertoire, backed by a total of 31 musicians, including a full orchestra and band.
Dion’s first residency, “A New Day…,” debuted in the 4000-seat Colosseum in March 2003 with a three-year contract. However, ticket sales were hot and the performance was critically praised, resulting in an almost immediate two-year extension through December 2007.
After leaving Las Vegas, Dion returned to the studio and then to the international touring scene for her Taking Chances World Tour. That 2008-2009 trek crossed five continents and 25 countries as the songstress performed for more than three million fans, according to a press statement.
For all her efforts, industry resource Pollstar named Dion the top grossing solo act of the last decade. She sold about four million tickets, for a total gross of $522.2 million, during her initial five-year residency and subsequent world tour. That tally put the French-Canadian vocalist just behind the decade’s overall leader, Dave Matthews Band, which grossed $529.1 million and sold 11.6 million tickets.
