Shambolic rocker Courtney Love is getting her act together — and her band — for some concerts across the U.S. and Europe this spring. The new line-up for fallen alt-rock darling Hole will be on the road for at least four national shows and 10 more overseas.
While Love’s itinerary is more internationally based at the moment, her U.S. dates are certainly spaced to allow a lengthier national jaunt than she has currently revealed. The new Hole line-up is slated to debut with back-to-back concerts in Austin, TX. The first show is an early evening gig on March 19 at Stubb’s Bar-B-Q, followed by an SXSW Music Festival showcase at 1 a.m. on March 20 at Dirty Dog Bar.
After the duo of Austin dates, Love and her latest Hole compatriots have a break in their schedule that lasts until an already sold-out April 22 concert at Henry Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles, CA, and an April 27 gig at Terminal 5 in New York, NY.
From there, Hole heads overseas for its 10-date trek of the UK and Europe. That stretch on the road runs from May 2 at the Academy in Manchester, ENG, through a May 17 event at Le Bataclan in Paris, FRA.
Public onsales for the New York City show begin March 12, along with all dates in mainland Europe. Tickets are already available for the slated UK shows. More details are available on the official Web site for Hole’s new album.
The record “Nobody’s Daughter,” scheduled for national distribution on April 27, will be the first release under the Hole name since 1998’s “Celebrity Skin.” It also stands as Love’s first in-studio stint since her 2004 solo debut, “America’s Sweetheart.”
While Love is touring under the Hole banner, she is the only original member remaining in the line-up. According to published reports, the band now also comprises guitarist Micko Larkin, bassist Shawn Dailey and drummer Stu Fisher.
Love had originally planned for “Nobody’s Daughter” to be released as her second solo effort. But somewhere along the way, it turned into a Hole project — sans her longtime collaborators, such as band co-founder and former lead guitarist Eric Erlandson, and longtime bassist Melissa Auf der Maur.
Erlandson has been outspoken in the press about his distaste for Love’s approach to reforming the band. However, Auf der Maur’s reaction has been more mixed in the press. As she commented to the Guardian, the new line-up “confuses the legacy of Hole. Courtney’s the leader, but she and Eric co-founded the band, and they should discuss it more in terms of what it means to the whole…of Hole.”
