Contact, a new electronic dance music (EDM) festival scheduled for the winter, announced Deadmau5 as the headlining act. Contact will be a one-day event, taking place in Vancouver, BC, at the BC Palace Stadium on December 26, 2012. The performance is expected to be a high energy draw, with intense light shows and major dance party.

The line-up holds a long list of performers for the day, including up-and-coming artists and major EDM names. According to straight.com, notable music acts for the festival include, “British dubstep trio Nero; Stockholm-based house musician Alesso; Scottish house-electronica DJ Chris Lake; and local house-electronica artist Lazy Rich.”

The festival is a collaborative effort by presenters Blueprint Events and Live Nation Canada, and pollstar.com notes that the presenters have referred to the festival as the largest thing of its kind to happen in Western Canada. Canada’s mega-telecom/media outfit Rogers will be teaming up with the presenters to support the event.

“This show is going to be incredible — the size, scope, venue, artists and partners we have chosen will make for the largest and most exciting dance event Vancouver and Western Canada has ever seen,” explained Alvaro Prol, Founder and CEO of Blueprint Events.

The information released about the festival has noted that Deadmau5 will be “Unhooked” on stage. Pollstar.com explained that it would be Deadmau5 performing in his most simplistic form. “It’s just Deadmau5 with his music gear… nothing else,” noted the site.

Deadmau5 first made a name for himself with electronic dance music in 2007. His first imprint was titled, “deadmau5 – Faxing Berlin.” In 2008, his first album dropped, titled “Random Album Title.” Since then, Deadmau5 has built a worldwide following, with his music climbing the charts and gaining attention in many countries.

The official website for Deadmau5 explains, “Joel Zimmerman doesn’t like being called a DJ. The dance music phenomenon from Toronto, better known as deadmau5, rolls his eyes at the description, which he sees as a hopelessly outdated way of describing what he does. His sets are closer to live performances as he assembles tracks on the fly using cutting edge computer technology including software that he’s helped to write himself.” The most recent album, “album title goes here” was made available to the public in September of this year.

The BC Palace Stadium has hosted many noteworthy musical events in the past, and Deadmau5’s official website proclaims that the venue only opens its doors to “top tier music events.” Past performers include popular names such as Madonna, Roger Waters, U2 and Paul McCartney.

Shortly after the performance, Deadmau5 will be headlining the SnowGlobe Music Festival. SnowGlobe is a three-day event that will be taking place in South Lake Tahoe City on the Lake Tahoe Community College Campus kicking off on December 29. Other headliners for the event include American rapper Wiz Kalifa and Canadian electro funk duo Chromeo.
