Broadway Ticket Sales Report
Week ending June 24, 2007
As summer heats up, so does Broadway with a modest increase in ticket sales this reporting period, from $20,065,645 the previous period to $20,428,069 this past week. Overall, this season compares very favorably to last season: ticket sales to date are $79,599,122, compared to last season’s $74,677,310.
The list of the top money-makers holds no surprises but makes a lot of people happy: Wicked, $1,445,474 at 100% capacity; The Lion King, $1,249,073 at 100%; Jersey Boys, $1,223,626 at 100%; Mary Poppins, $1,213,951 at 100%; and The Color Purple, $1,029,992 at almost 94% capacity.
Of the seven plays currently on Broadway, the top three contenders in ticket sales were: Frost/Nixon, $551,714 at just over 94% capacity; Inherit The Wind, $470,073 at 94%; and Talk Radio, $319,853 at 63%—and its last performance took place in the Longacre Theatre on June 24. Also closing its doors was Lovemusik at the Biltmore on June 24. . .
Old Acquaintance is in previews at the American Airlines Theatre and opens this week, June 28.
Xanadu is still in previews at the Helen Hayes Theatre and will open July 10.
Upcoming:
Megan Mullaly, formerly of television’s Will and Grace, is cast in the upcoming production of Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein opening in the Hilton Theatre this Nov. 8 after previews beginning Oct. 11. Roger Bart plays Dr. Frederick Frankenstein and Shuler Hensley the Monster. The musical is adapted from the 1974 movie that won two Academy Award nominations. More kudos followed, including selection as number 13 on the American Film Institute’s list of 100 Funniest American Movies of All Time.
