With the holiday season right around the corner and a new single called “Care” on the way, Kid Rock has announced plans to give back with a series of charity concerts.
The Detroit native has mapped a charity tour will span the final months of the year. The late 2011 outing kicks off November 10 at Center Stage in Atlanta, GA, and concludes December 9 at the Fantasy Springs Events Center in Indio, CA.
Stops on the 15-date calendar include November 19 at the Beacon Theatre in New York, NY; November 26 at the House of Blues in Chicago, IL; and December 1 at the Fillmore Auditorium in Denver, CO. Fellow Detroit musician Ty Stone will provide support throughout the tour.
Public ticket sales begin October 15 after earlier presales for Kid Rock’s official fan club. Onsale ticket prices will range anywhere from $20 in Denver to $89.50 in New York City, with an average face value set around $50, based on current Ticketmaster.com event listings.
Under the name of the Kid Rock Foundation, both the artist himself and select businesses and individuals from the greater Detroit region will donate money from their own coffers to local charities in each city the tour visits. Partner radio stations will select which causes will receive Kid Rock Foundation donations in their respective markets.
Charity tours are nothing new in the music world, though the size and source of the donation varies greatly from event to event.
Singer-songwriter Jack Johnson pledged all 2010 tour proceeds to charity. For her 2011 tour dates, British singer Adele required $20 minimum donations from guest list attendees in exchange for their complimentary tickets. Meanwhile, indie rock crew Dispatch added a $1 charity fee to its summer 2011 reunion concert tickets.
Sometimes, charitable intentions spark more controversy than good will. Fans of the late Michael Jackson were incensed when tribute concert organizers informed ticket lottery applicants, “The more you pledge to charity, the more chance you have of getting a ticket.”
However, Kid Rock claims that the team-giving approach of his charitable fall 2011 tour makes it “unlike anything ever done before.”
“Everyone knows that Detroit is hurting,” Kid Rock said in a tour statement. “But I want to show that even though we don’t have a lot on our own plate, it doesn’t mean the people of my hometown don’t have compassion to share with others all over the country.”
